About the Artist

Artist Matt Colagiuri was born in Montclair, NJ. After graduating from Yale with a degree in Physical Anthropology, he moved to Manhattan to pursue his first love: Theatre. He completed his acting training in NYC and worked in “the biz” for almost a decade before giving up the gypsy lifestyle and moving to Atlanta, GA.

Matt worked briefly in so-called desk jobs before returning to school at The Art Institute of Atlanta. Graduating at the top of his class with a degree in Media Arts and Animation, he went on to enjoy a reasonably successful career as a freelance animator. His client list included the Atlanta Braves and Coca-Cola, among others. It was during this time that he discovered and began exploring his second love: Photography.

Matt no longer animates and dedicates himself full-time to his Sculptural Photography. He credits the evolution of his unique style to his dual background as both an actor and an animator.

After a four-year tenure in San Francisco, Matt returned to his roots and moved to Jersey City. Matt’s work is exhibited across three continents. In New York, he is represented by Krause Gallery; in London by Mark Jason Gallery; and in Paris by Sfeir Galeries. He recently began exhibiting with George Thornton Art in Nottingham, UK, and he shows regularly in Singapore and Hong Kong. His recent exhibit in New York, “The Boroughs” was featured on Fox 5 News. Be sure to check out “Fade to Passion” part of the permanent collection at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

Matt is a member of Pro Arts Jersey City and JCArtist.org. He owns Blue Door Studios near Hamilton Park.
